THE BRIEF

This installation was incorporated into an existing room where the clients wanted, as their priority, a 5.1 home cinema system with a 42 or 50 inch plasma screen to show DVD's and Sky television. They felt that satellite speakers would have to be used to avoid disruption but asked if the equipment could be enclosed.

THE INSTALLATION

After surveying the room we were able to advise the clients that a 50 inch plasma screen would be suitable for the room and that we could adapt an existing cupboard to house the system equipment.

We also advised them that we could, in fact, install in-ceiling speakers with minimal disruption, for a more discrete appearance. We also suggested a 6.1 system for future-proofing. The Sky distribution was upgraded for TV and FM digital broadcasts.

After further discussions as to how the room would be used, we were able to offer further suggestions to the client. Firstly a games socket was installed next to the seating area to allow the use of games stations, cameras and camcorders through the system. Secondly, we suggested installing downlighting to enhance the room ambience, controllable by remote control for different scene settings.

The whole system, including the lighting, is controlled via a plasma-friendly infra-red remote control system with the sensor situated underneath the plasma screen.

As an addition, we pre-wired the master bedroom for a 37 inch LCD screen, DVD, Sky and a small lifestyle home cinema system.
